We have a metal crate from a previous dog that is way to big...we are adopting two rescue dogs so we will want to keep them separated and crated for a while when we are not right there paying attention to them. I was opting for the wooden, but the first dog is a one year old pocket staffy mix...and your comment about the "teething/chewing" stage got me thinking...maybe the first crate will be metal (or even partition the larger crate)...thanks for the tips...new to your channel but plan to watch more!

This is such an American thing to do. Here in Europe we stop our four legged family members from crying in the crate by not putting them in a crate.
Using a crate is an essential part of raising and training a puppy. When used correctly with the proper desensitization, crates are like cribs or playpens for babies and toddlers. They are used to keep your pup safe and out of trouble. Crates are the safest place for your puppy when you are away from home. Crates are never used as punishment but are a good place to encourage rest. ❤️

Thanks other videos I watched say you should not let the pup cry so I will try your method. My shiba uses her crate at day but on night time she sleeps outside my room (she’s not allowed inside and I close it with a fence) I will also remove her water fountain. Although she does not cry at night I would prefer for her to use her crate because her breed seems to be very prone to anxiety and she cries when I go out from home. I also want to reinforce potty training because she goes on long walks but only pees and poos inside in her pads, I do not mind cleaning but I want her to learn one single spot of the house is ok for it and not the two she has getting used to. Hopefully this will work!

My dog is almost 2 and she really seems to find her crate her safe place. Am I supposed to be aging her out of this? She hangs out there all the time and even when we go away together she prefers her crate rather than cuddling lol..
We love this! If she's content in there it's best to allow her in whenever she wants!

Even hairless dogs can go outside for short periods for potty breaks.

I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi with a tail because I don't like the idea of docking tails. So his tail naturally curls over his back all the time. If he's wagging his tail, is there any way to distinguish between general happiness and over stimulation in this case? The only time his tail goes down is when he is afraid.
You can look at contextual clues in the environment but also look at things like ear placement, mouth tension and eyes to see if you can decipher stress / fear or excitement

My 8 week ridgeback will stay in crate when I sit outside of it with the door open. Should I do this till he gets more comfortable? I don’t know how to set up night time ? Should I sleep next to him… should I let him sleep wherever? I am not sure what to do…. He wants me to stay next to him… is that ok for now ?

My 8 year old husky who just went for a walk and then peed next to the front door in the 20 minutes we were gone 100% did it out of spite from us not taking her with us
Spite is a complex emotion that doggy brains aren't capable of. When we see this behavior it's usually stress.
